College Football: Week 1 AP Poll
Monday, August 28, 2006What will the AP Poll look like next week? I’ve got the answer for you. Each week we’ll be predicting what each ranked team will do in the upcoming games and how that will impact their rankings. Then, we’ll compare these predictions against what actually happened as the season progresses.
In week 1, most teams play the cupcakes of their schedule so there usually isn’t much movement in comparison with other weeks of the season. This year is no different but we do have some high quality matchups this week that will shake the poll out a little bit.
Here is what the Preseason Poll looks like along with each ranked team’s opponent.

There will not be an upset in week 1 where a powder-puff takes down a ranked opponent. Not unless you call Georgia Tech a powder puff. The Jackets will pull off the upset of the week and this will vault them into the rankings next week as well as knocking Notre Dame off of their #2 spot.
In the weekend’s biggest game between ranked opponents, Florida State will get the home win in the Orange Bowl over a depleted Miami team. The Hurricanes have four suspended players for the Labor Day contest and this will prove too much to overcome against a Seminole team that is good enough to repeat as ACC Champs.
In the other huge game of the weekend, Cal will prove that the Pac-10 can hang with the big boys in the national perception. Tennessee will get off to the wrong foot again with a home loss to the Golden Bears. This knocks the Vols out of the rankings again which is happening all too often lately for Vol fans.
These three games will produce the only losers in the top 25 this week so the Week 1 Poll will not change by much. Here’s what it will look like.
