MLB Articles - 7/31/2006 9:05:03 PM Monday’s trade deadline passed with a few interesting moves but really very little to talk about. Big name players like Miguel Tejada, Alfonso Soriano, and Barry Zito are still with the teams they began the season with.
Teams desperately seeking starting pitching chose to take their chances with what they have. Teams looking to steal impact offensive players chose not to pay the steep prices sought.

Atlanta on TFV - 7/25/2006 10:15:03 AM Going into the last weekend of June in which Atlanta and Tampa were playing head to head, Atlanta was 30-43 and Tampa was 32-41. How could Atlanta be that bad? What if they lost the series in Tampa or worse, got swept. The season would have been OVER at that point. Instead, Atlanta quietly won the series 2-1. Just four weeks later, what are the records? Atlanta is 47-51 (just 4 games under .500) and Tampa is 41-59 (18 games under .500). Somehow in that 9-18 stretch since late June, Tampa managed to take 3 out of 4 from Boston. Imagine how bad things could be for them.

MLB Articles - 7/21/2006 11:32:07 AM Not too many parties in the streets of Atlanta, but the city should be happy today. Bob Wickman hardly resembles a midseason trade for Fred McGriff. However, it could prove to be just as important for this Braves team this year.
It goes without saying that any move was a good move for Atlanta. This move could prove to be better than just any move. The Braves have plenty of talent and plenty of youth in the bullpen. That seems to be their downfall. The young guys all seem caught in the headlights. Wickman is just the veteran Atlanta needed to help balance out the young guys in the pen. Playing with a young staff is not necessarily bad, but the Braves have proven that it can be risky.

Atlanta on TFV - 7/17/2006 12:00:00 AM For
the record, the Braves are only 3 games out of the wild card. So much
for all the number crunching people are doing to determine how many
games the Braves need to win the rest of the way. What's that? You are
telling me that the Braves are really 5 1/2 games out of the wild card?
Come on! Do you really believe in Cincinnati? The Reds can’t be taken
seriously. Picking up the bullpen help will help initially, but they
gave up too much for long run. They will begin their usual tail off
soon. Hopefully that doesn't coincide with the typical Griffey injury
because I do root for him.

MLB Articles - 6/9/2006 11:00:01 AM By Doug Knebel
As the World Cup begins in Germany today, the majority of the world stops what they’re doing to watch. Out of the world’s 6.5 billion people, 5 billion will watch. The ad in my ESPN the Magazine claims: “It closes the shops, closes the schools, closes a city, stops a war, fuels a nation, breaks the borders, builds a hero, crushes a dream, answers a prayer, and changes the world.” No one can deny this is the biggest sporting event in the world.
This is bigger than the Olympics and it’s bigger than the Super Bowl. So why is America the one country that still doesn’t get up for it like others do? I don’t see shops closed around where I live and I don’t see it fueling my nation. Local sports radio shows are talking more about the NBA Finals and regular season games of Major League Baseball than they are about the World Cup.

MLB Articles - 5/30/2006 12:00:00 AM Want to know why people attack Atlanta as a sports town? It is because of idiots like Tim McCarver making absolutely incorrect statements on national television selling them off as fact. The truth of the matter is that people outside of Atlanta know very little about Atlanta. Their opinions are formed by national media who caries as much knowledge about the city.

Adam Dunn confessed he had some jitters before taking the field for his home debut with the Arizona Diamondbacks. But any worries disappeared when Dunn hit his National League-leading 33rd home run, powering the Diamondbacks to a 7-6 victory over the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night. "It's a good feeling to have," Dunn said.

Yahoo! News - 8/19/2008 10:17:27 PM Cardinals reliever Jason Isringhausen, twice demoted from the closer role this season, is likely out for the rest of the season with an elbow injury. The 35-year-old Isringhausen had an MRI on Tuesday. He left Busch Stadium after consulting with team medical personnel and before the Cardinals' 4-1 loss to the Pirates.
